Introduction to Handgun Course Description

Duration:

Classroom Time: 2 Hours

Range Time: 1 Hour


Course Fee: $175 per individual / $300 per couple


Prerequisite:

  • No prior experience with firearms required
  • You do not have to own a handgun or safety equipment to attend this course
  • Ammunition, handguns, safety equipment, range fees and instructional fees are all included in one price


Overview:

  • Fundamentals of firearms safety and safe gun handling
  • Anatomy and mechanics of handguns
  • Muzzle awareness
  • Proper grip and stance
  • Sight alignment and sight picture
  • Trigger control
  • How to safely load, unload and fire a semi-automatic handgun

Student Required Gear:

  • Closed toe shoes / long pants / baseball style hat / collared shirt (no plunging neck lines)
  • Handgun (if you have one, or you can use one of ours)
  • Eye and ear protection (if you have them, or we can provide them for you)
  • Note taking gear
  • Water and snacks
  • Ammunition: 50 rounds of 9mm ammunition is included in the course fee. If you have a handgun chambered in a caliber other than 9mm, you will need to provide your own ammunition for the course.

Red Dot Sight Fundamentals

Red Dot Sight Fundamentals

This course is designed to benefit those who are brand new to pistol shooting, as well as the seasoned iron sight shooter looking to make the transition over to the red dot sighting system. Training can be conducted from the transition starting position, or from the holster, i.e., the ability to draw from the holster is not mandatory for this course.


Duration: 6 hours


Prerequisite: 

Working knowledge of firearms safety and manipulation, including the skills described in our Introduction to Handgun course curriculum. The course is modified as needed around the current skillset of the participant(s), ranging from basic to more advanced applications.


Course Fee: $225


Overview:

  • Grip and pistol presentation techniques affording you the ability to find the dot consistently and effortlessly, every single time
  • Zeroing of your red dot and back up iron sights
  • Target focused shooting concepts and implementation
  • Dot tracking fundamentals
  • Target transitions
  • Effective use of the red dot sight at a multitude of distances

Defensive Rifle Carbine Firearm Handgun Gun Pistol Instruction Training Dallas Texas

DH1 - Defensive Handgun 1

The primary focus of this course is to equip you with the fundamental skill set required to safely carry and employ a handgun for defensive purposes, should the need arise in an everyday carry situation. The perfect course for those choosing to exercise their right to Constitutional Carry, or someone who currently has or is looking to obtain a Texas License to Carry.


Duration: 6 hours


Prerequisite: 

Working knowledge of firearms safety and manipulation, including the skills described in our Introduction to Handgun course curriculum


Course Fee: $225


Overview:

  • Course is predominantly focused upon safely drawing, presenting and re-holstering a handgun for defensive purposes
  • Biomechanically efficient positioning of holster and gear to suit the student's individual body type
  • Grip and pistol presentation methodology
  • Draw techniques from an inside the waistband (appendix) and/or an outside the waistband holster
  • Precision & stress sight picture work (sight focused vs. target focused)
  • Emergency and administrative reloads
  • Clearing of malfunctions

Defensive Rifle Carbine Firearm Handgun Gun Pistol Instruction Training Dallas Texas

DH2 - Defensive Handgun 2

This course focuses on the combination of speed and accuracy,  seamless firearm manipulations, and use of movement and cover to defend yourself more effectively in a real world, 360 degree environment.


Duration: 6 hours


Prerequisite: 

Proficiency with drawing and firing from the holster, as well as all aspects of firearms safety, muzzle awareness and muzzle discipline. The ability to perform the skills described in our DH1 course curriculum, while timed, and under range induced stress


 Course Fee: $225 


 Overview:

  

  • Exhaustive grip methodology and implementation
  • Recoil management techniques
  • Trigger manipulation and vision focus exercises
  • Multiple rounds on target (doubles, triples, Bill drills)
  • Target transition techniques
  • Firing from standing, kneeling, supine, etc
  • Barricade work
  • Multiple target engagements at varied heights and distances
  • Manipulating and running the gun while on the move

INTRODUCTION TO VEHICLE

ITV - Introduction To Vehicle

This course is specifically designed for those with a solid basic skillset looking to take their defensive handgun training to the next level.  This is NOT a fast paced, run and gun type class, but instead focuses on the fundamentals of safely working in and around a vehicle.


You do not have to be a “gun ninja” to take this course. You simply need to possess safe gun handling skills and have the ability to safely manipulate a firearm while in the presence of others. 


Duration: 5 hours (including a quick meal break)


Prerequisite: 

Solid foundation relating to firearms safety and manipulation, including the skills described in our Introduction to Handgun course curriculum.  A holster is required for the course in order to have a safe place to stow your pistol while it is not in use, but experience drawing from the holster is not required.


 Course Fee: $225
 

 Overview:

  • General overview of vehicle ballistics
  • Defeating the seatbelt and safely disembarking the vehicle with a handgun
  • Use of cover and concealment around the vehicle
  • Defensive shooting strategies and positions required to effectively engage threats from both within and around the vehicle


Student Required Gear:

  • Closed toe shoes / long pants with belt loops / hat
  • Sturdy belt
  • Handgun

DHV - Defensive Handgun - Vehicle

THIS IS A STRICTLY VETTED COURSE,

RESERVED FOR HIGHLY DISCIPLINED

AND COMPETENT SHOOTERS.


This course focuses on safely manipulating and employing a handgun while in and around a vehicle, for the purposes of effectively defending yourself in this close quarters, often difficult to navigate environment


Duration: 6 hours


Prerequisite: 

Advanced level of proficiency with drawing and firing from the holster, as well as all aspects of firearms safety, muzzle awareness and muzzle discipline. The ability to perform the skills described in both our DH1 & DH2 course curriculum, while timed, and under range induced stress


 Course Fee: $225
 

 Overview:

  • Principals of round trajectory and penetration through different materials on a vehicle
  • Principles of cover and concealment afforded by a vehicle
  • Drawing and firing from the holster in and around a vehicle
  • Handgun manipulation in and around a vehicle
  • Firing from positions associated with defensive vehicle engagements
  • Multiple target engagement work

ITD - Introduction To Darkness

This course is specifically designed for those with a good basic skillset looking to take their defensive handgun training to the next level.  This is NOT a fast paced, run and gun type class, but instead focuses on the fundamentals of safely working with a handheld and / or weapon mounted in low light to no light conditions.


You do not have to be a “gun ninja” to take this course. You simply need to possess safe gun handling skills and have the ability to safely manipulate a firearm while in the presence of others. 


Fact: More than 80% of defensive gunfights occur in low-light to no-light conditions.


Duration: 5 hours


Prerequisite: 

Solid foundation relating to firearms safety and manipulation, including the skills described in our Introduction to Handgun course curriculum.  A holster is required for the course in order to have a safe place to stow your pistol while it is not in use, but experience drawing from the holster is not required.


 Course Fee: $225
 

 Overview:

  • The course begins with working on the fundamentals in the daylight. A short break for dinner is taken while waiting for the sun to set. Training resumes as darkness begins to set in. 
  • General overview of different handheld and weapon mounted lights
  • Discussion and demonstrations relating to lumens, light throw, hotspots, splash-back etc.
  • Two hand and strong hand only shooting work
  • Introduction to the Harries, Rogers, Neck Index & FBI handheld flashlight techniques
  • Principals of working around cover and barricades with a handheld flashlight


Student Required Gear:

  • Closed toe shoes / long pants with belt loops / hat
  • Sturdy belt
  • Handgun

Duration: 8 hours 


Prerequisite: 

Advanced level of proficiency with drawing and firing from the holster, as well as all aspects of firearms safety, muzzle awareness and muzzle discipline. The ability to perform the skills described in both our DH1 & DH2 course curriculum, while timed, and under range induced stress


 Course Fee: $275 


 Overview:

  • Principals of searching, navigating and positive threat identification
  • Principles of low light / no light tactics and “dominating with light”
  • Drawing and firing from the holster while employing a handled flashlight, utilizing the Harries, Rogers, Neck Index & FBI techniques
  • Natural point of aim development 
  • Darkness oriented moving and communication drills
  • Multiple target engagement work

REGARDING HOLSTERS

Holsters Types and Manufacturers

Types of Holsters:

We strongly recommend bringing a modern, high quality, inside the waistband (IWB - worn inside your pants, between your body and the material of your pants) or outside the waistband holster (OWB - worn on the outside of your belt), made of kydex/plastic type material.  Leather holsters are acceptable, but kydex is preferred.

The following holster types are NOT ALLOWED while training with us:

  • holsters made of soft nylon material
  • cross draw holsters
  • shoulder holsters
  • ankle holsters
  • purse or backpack holsters
  • belly band type holsters
  • Blackhawk brand Serpa holsters, or any holster of this design requiring the trigger finger to be used to unlock the pistol from the holster

Aim True specializes in private and more often than not custom training courses for both individuals and groups. Training is limited to a maximum number of six participants per class.  To reserve a date and time, simply click the "Contact" button below to send us an email.  We can then call you to discuss curriculum, available training dates and rates. After your reservation is confirmed, you will receive an email from our PayPal account.  Payment for all courses is due in full 48 hours prior to the start of the course.
