BASIC COURSE + LTC TEST

Basic Course Description:

Designed for clients with little to no experience with a handgun and includes basic handgun training with the LTC shooting test being administered at the end of the course.


Duration: Classroom Time: 2 Hours

Range Time: Between 1 and 2 Hours

Please allocate at total of 4 hours of your time for this course.

Note: This is an open enrollment course, available to both men and women.


Course Fee: $185 - includes the Basic Pistol Course and administration of the LTC Proficiency Demonstration


Range Fee: $20 + tax paid directly to the range upon check-in.


Ammunition: You are welcome to bring your own ammunition or purchase ammo from the range upon check-in. The cost of ammo is not included in this course. 


Prerequisite:

  • Having already passed the LTC classroom test (online or in person)
  • No prior experience with a handgun is required


Overview:

  • Fundamentals of firearms safety and safe gun handling
  • Anatomy and mechanics of handguns
  • Muzzle awareness
  • Proper grip and stance
  • Sight alignment and sight picture
  • Trigger control
  • How to safely load, unload and fire your revolver or semi-automatic handgun
  • Practice and preparation for the LTC Proficiency Demonstration
  • The Texas LTC Proficiency Demonstration (shooting test) is administered at the end of the course. Certificates of completion are presented by our certified State of Texas LTC instructor to those who pass the test only 


Student Required Items:

  • LTC 100 Form (if class was completed in person)
  • LTC 101 Form (if class was completed online)
  • Handgun (rentals available at additional charge)
  • Eye and ear protection (rentals available at additional charge)
  • Ammunition: 50 rounds for training and practice + 50 rounds for the LTC shooting test, for a total of 100 rounds (available for purchase from the range)


NOTE: Attending this course does NOT guarantee passing the LTC shooting test. The test will be administered per the State of Texas standards, as described below.

LTC Proficiency Demonstration (Test)

Description of the Test:

The proficiency demonstration (test) consists of a 50 round shooting qualification. Being a “proficiency demonstration”, proper gun handling and safety is being demonstrated by the applicant to the LTC instructor.

Applicants must score a 70% or higher to pass. That is 175 points out of a possible 250 points. There are multiple rings on the target (as depicted above) for scoring. Everything in the 8 ring and in is 5 points, inside the 7 ring is 4 points and outside the 7 ring but still in the body is 3 points.


Course of Fire:


Stage 1: Twenty shots (20) fired from 3 yards:

A. Five (5) shots fired in a “One Shot Exercise” with 2 seconds allowed for each shot. 

B. Ten shots (10) fired in a “Two Shot Exercise” with 3 seconds allowed for each two shot sequence. 

C. Five (5) shots fired in 10 seconds  


Stage 2: Twenty shots (20) fired from 7 yards:

A. Five (5) shots fired in 10 seconds 

B. Five (5) shots fired in 2 stages:

     1. Two (2) shots fired in 4 seconds

     2. Three (3) shots fired in 6 seconds 

C. Five (5) shots fired in a “One Shot Exercise” with 3 seconds allowed for each shot. 

D. Five (5) shots fired in 15 seconds.  


Stage 3: Ten shots (10) fired from 15 yards:

A. Five (5) shots fired in two stages:

      1. Two (2) shots fired in 6 seconds.

      2. Three (3) shots fired in 9 seconds. B. Five (5) shots fired in 15 seconds.
