HOLSTER COURSE + LTC CERTIFICATION

Holster Training Course + Texas License To Carry Certification

The course is designed to prepare you for the License To Carry range qualification test and to equip you with the primary skills required to safely carry and employ a handgun in an everyday carry defensive situation.

 

Date and Time: 

  • Saturday May 15th beginning at 9:00 am (max 10 students)
  • Sunday May 16th beginning at 9:00 am (max 10 students) 
    • Saturday course must be full before the Sunday course will be offered


Duration: 8 hours (all range time - no classroom)

  

Course Fees: 

  • State required online “classroom” training $50.00 
    • Must be completed prior to attending range day training
    • Administered through this website by following this link: https://onlinetexasltc.com/aim-true or by clicking on the "Online Training" image below
      • By clicking the above link, you will be redirected to our LTC online training site where you can sign up, pay for and complete the state required "classroom" training
      • Note: Online training does not have to be completed in one full length session. You can stop and restart as needed until you have completed the training
  • Range day holster training course and administration of the state required LTC Proficiency Demonstration (shooting test) $150.00


I Already Have My LTC: If you currently have your Texas LTC and are simply wanting to train with Donna, you can sign up and pay for the range day training only.


Range Location: Aim True Group’s private training facility (not open to the public)

  • Near Canton TX (about 45 minutes from Tyler)
  • Two miles from Prairieville TX
  • Address and directions to the range to be provided via email post course enrollment


Range Fee: No additional range fee.


Ammunition: The cost of ammo is NOT included in this course. If you are having trouble finding ammo, you might consider shopping through https://ammoseek.com/  They provide listings by caliber and price from different retailers across the country.  Ammo will not be available for purchase at the range so please arrive with enough to complete the training 


Ammunition Required: 

  • 200 to 250 rounds 
    • 150 rounds for the holster training work
    • The LTC shooting test requires 50 rounds – if you do  not pass the first time and need to take it again, you will need an additional 50 rounds.


Prerequisite: 

  • Having already passed the LTC classroom test (online training) and received your certificate of completion
  • Working knowledge of firearms safety and manipulation, including: 
    • The ability to safely manipulate and fire a handgun in the company of others, lined up side by side on the firing line
    • The ability to load and unload your handgun and magazines / cylinder without assistance from  others
    • Extremely safe gun handling skills including muzzle awareness / muzzle discipline (not pointing your gun at others) 


Overview:

  • Course is predominantly focused on safely drawing, presenting and re-holstering a handgun for defensive purposes
  • Biomechanically efficient body positioning and grip
  • Sight alignment / sight picture
  • Precision & stress sight picture work
  • Speed and administrative reloading of the handgun
  • Clearing of malfunctions
  • Practice and preparation for the LTC Proficiency Demonstration 
  • The Texas LTC Proficiency Demonstration (shooting test) is administered at the end of the course. Certificates of completion are presented by our certified State of Texas LTC instructor to those who pass the test only


Student Required Gear:

  • LTC 101 Form (received when online training is completed)
  • Handgun
  • Holster
  • 2 magazines (or more)
  • Magazine carrier
  • Eye and ear protection
  • Clothing (training is conducted outdoors – dress seasonally appropriate)
    • Closed toe shoes
    • Long pants or shorts with belt loops
    • Sturdy belt (for your holster)
    • No low or plunging neck line shirts (to mitigate hot brass down your shirt)
    • Brimmed baseball style hat
  • Lunch, drinks and snacks
  • 200 to 250 rounds of ammunition for your handgun


Regarding Holsters:

A modern, high quality, inside or outside the waistband holster, worn on your strong side, made of kydex (plastic) or leather material is required.


The following holster types are NOT ALLOWED:

  • Holsters made of nylon material
  • Cross draw holsters
  • Shoulder holsters
  • Ankle holsters
  • Purse or backpack holsters
  • Deep concealment belly band type holsters
  • Blackhawk brand Serpa holsters

If you are unsure of your gear, we are happy to go discuss it with you prior to class. 


NOTE: Attending this course does NOT guarantee passing the LTC shooting test. The test will be administered per the State of Texas standards, as described below.

LTC Proficiency Demonstration (Test)

Description of the Test:

The proficiency demonstration (test) consists of a 50 round shooting qualification. Being a “proficiency demonstration”, proper gun handling and safety is being demonstrated by the applicant to the LTC instructor.

Applicants must score a 70% or higher to pass. That is 175 points out of a possible 250 points. There are multiple rings on the target (as depicted) for scoring. Everything in the 8 ring and in is 5 points, inside the 7 ring is 4 points and outside the 7 ring but still in the body is 3 points.


Course of Fire:


Stage 1: Twenty shots (20) fired from 3 yards:

A. Five (5) shots fired in a “One Shot Exercise” with 2 seconds allowed for each shot. 

B. Ten shots (10) fired in a “Two Shot Exercise” with 3 seconds allowed for each two shot sequence. 

C. Five (5) shots fired in 10 seconds  


Stage 2: Twenty shots (20) fired from 7 yards:

A. Five (5) shots fired in 10 seconds 

B. Five (5) shots fired in 2 stages:

     1. Two (2) shots fired in 4 seconds

     2. Three (3) shots fired in 6 seconds 

C. Five (5) shots fired in a “One Shot Exercise” with 3 seconds allowed for each shot. 

D. Five (5) shots fired in 15 seconds.  


Stage 3: Ten shots (10) fired from 15 yards:

A. Five (5) shots fired in two stages:

      1. Two (2) shots fired in 6 seconds.

      2. Three (3) shots fired in 9 seconds. B. Five (5) shots fired in 15 seconds.

3) Once payment is received, you will be booked into the course.

NOTE 1: Course payment is final.

Note 2: No refunds will be made for those who no-show for the course.

Note 3: If the course is rained out, a refund will be issued to you, less the cost of the PayPal transaction fee.

Note 4: The $150 training day fee is separate and apart from the Online LTC training course fee.
